CyberMe Intermediate is a two-day face-to-face
event for secondary school students,
imparting Cyber Security skills through instructor-led workshops and practical challenges.
Its aims are to;
CyberMe events are hosted locally at a partner school, college, university or similar academic / community venue. There is no charge to attend a CyberMe event, although participants do need to travel to / from the host site on both days.
Schools may nominate a number of their high-achieving / interested students to participate in a CyberMe event. CyberMe Intermediate is targeted at Year 10 / 11 (KS4) students, although suitable Year 9 students may also participate.
Each group of students must be accompanied by at least one member of staff from their school. This staff member also participates in the workshop sessions and challenges and can take this knowledge (and accompanying materials) back to their school for follow-up sessions and additional staff / student development. There is no requirement for this member of staff to have a Computer Science background.
CyberMe Intermediate takes place across two consecutive days. The first day consists of six fifty-minute workshop sessions on various Cyber Security topics, combining theory with practice to impart essential skills that are then used during the practical challenges (which take place during the second day). Further information on the topics covered may be found within the ‘Schedule & Topics’ section.
The second day consists of three ‘mini-challenges’, exercising foundational skills within controlled (time-bound) activities, culminating in an ‘extended competitive challenge’. Participants are split into small teams (of five to ten students) for these challenges, all of which take place in a communal challenge area.
The first, second and third highest-performing teams of the ‘extended competitive challenge’ receive a prize. Team performance is assessed and fed back at the end of each challenge, such that teams can determine their weak areas, etc. for further study.
All participants receive a copy of the learning materials at the end of the event, including practical guides to some of the tools and techniques covered during the first day. These may be used for self-study, or as part of additional structured teaching / learning activities at participating schools (after the event).
Note: The times given are for illustrative purposes only. The schedule may be varied to be earlier / later in the day, but with the same session lengths / breaks, etc.
